Part 3: How to lie properly in the hammock
Comfort starts with the right angle.
Many people climb into a hammock for the first time and lie down straight—head on one side, feet on the other. This is comfortable for a quick nap, but not ideal for a restful night.
The trick: lie diagonally
If you position your body slightly diagonally to the centerline of the hammock, you'll create a flatter lying surface . This provides optimal back support and eliminates pressure points—meaning better sleep without back pain!
Stable and safe
The hammock's signature "banana" shape not only ensures comfort but also safety. This shape keeps your center of gravity low, minimizing the risk of falling out.
Accessories for even more sleeping comfort
-
A small pillow (or the hammock bag filled with clothes) supports the neck.
-
A rolled-up piece of clothing under the knees relieves pressure on the lower back.
-
Underquilts or sleeping mats protect against cooling from below – especially important in cooler temperatures.
Side sleepers welcome
You don't have to lie stiffly on your back—in a well-stretched hammock, sleeping on your side is also possible. Just experiment and find what feels best for you.
