Part 4: The perfect equipment for hammock camping
What you really need – and what you can add depending on the weather and adventure.
Hammock camping is minimalist—and that's precisely its strength. But with the right accessories, you can significantly expand its comfort and versatility.
The basic setup
You always need these three things:
-
hammock
-
Suspension (e.g. Moon Straps or Nautical Ropes)
-
Carabiner or S-hook for connection
For protection & comfort:
-
Tarp : Protects from sun, rain and wind
-
Mosquito net : For relaxing nights without buzzing disturbances
-
Underquilt : Keeps you warm from below in cool temperatures
-
Top quilt or sleeping bag : For additional warmth from above
For order & security:
-
Drip lines : Prevent water from running along the ropes
-
Hanging system or gear loops : For hanging backpacks, lamps or shoes
-
Dry bag or garbage bag : To protect equipment from moisture and dirt
Optional but practical:
-
Hammock Sleeve : Protects your hammock when not in use
-
Seat pad or sleeping mat : For the campfire or as a backup
-
Small pillow : For extra neck support (or use the stuff sack)
