Part 6: Tips for your first night in a hammock
This will make your first time really good.
Your first night in a hammock can be magical—if you keep a few things in mind. Here are the most important tips to get you started.
1. Don’t hang too high
The classic beginner's mistake: The hammock hangs too tight and too high. Hang it so that your bottom is about 50 cm above the ground – this makes it easier to get in and increases safety.
2. Stay warm
Even on mild nights, it cools down quickly in a hammock – especially from below. An underquilt or sleeping pad are your best friends. A light sleeping bag or blanket also provides warmth from above.
3. Don't forget the mosquito net
If you sleep outside, a mosquito net is a must. It not only protects you from insects but also improves the quality of your sleep.
4. Have everything at hand
Plan a small spot next to the hammock for your water bottle, headlamp, or power bank . A gear organizer or a simple cloth bag in a tree will also do the trick.
5. No stress, no pressure
Your first night is an experience – but you don't have to get a perfect night's sleep. It's about settling into nature and learning. Every night gets better!
