Part 7: Care & Storage of Your Hammock
With a few simple steps, your favorite place will stay like new for a long time.
To ensure you enjoy your hammock for many years, a little care is worthwhile. Here are the best tips for cleaning, drying, and storage.
1. Clean regularly
Airing or shaking out is usually enough . If you need more:
-
Hand wash with mild detergent or
-
Gentle machine wash (no spinning!)
Tip: Remove carabiners and ropes beforehand.
2. Let it dry thoroughly
Moisture is the enemy of any gear. Always hang your hammock up to dry completely after washing or after a rainy day , preferably outside in the shade.
3. Store properly
Your hammock loves a dry, airy, and dark place. Store it:
-
not permanently in the compression bag
-
not damp or dirty
-
preferably loosely folded or in a breathable bag
4. Check for damage
Before each use, it is worth doing a quick check:
-
Are the seams intact?
-
Are ropes or straps brittle?
-
Are there any tears in the fabric?
Detected early = slept safely.
