Sasch's Blog #3: Heartbreakers in the Shelter, Culinary Boss Fights, and a Look Towards Italy 🗺️🥐
After tough days working at the shelter and the first big wave of Greek hospitality, our long-time Ticket To The Moon companion Sasch has now entered his third week in Corfu. A week that made him reflect deeply – about his strengths, his dreams, and the tireless hunger for the next adventure.
Here is his third, wonderfully honest report directly from the island:
"Week three… probably the most significant week. The week in which I once again realized that it takes time to understand your new surroundings. To understand, for example, where I can be of help in the shelter and where I should better keep my hands off. To understand where MY strengths lie. Initially, observing more, and then finding the position that fulfills ME. That's why I like to travel for longer periods, to get precisely this feeling.
But often, due to my impulsiveness and joy in new things, I find myself in a dilemma. On one side, the almost tireless hunger for the new – and on the other side, familiarity, which also gives ME a fantastic feeling of security!!
Last week in Corfu was filled with magnificent sunrises and another trip to Corfu Town. It was a great joy to immerse myself in this city and soak up all the wonderful charm, warmth, esprit, and of course, brilliant delicacies it has to offer. Sitting there, with a puff pastry filled with delicious cheese in hand, and being able to give my full attention to the atmosphere of this city… what a magnificent gift!!

Along the coastal road back towards the apartment, I had to stop twice, as these spots practically screamed for me to settle down here for a while – and of course, with another FREDDO CAPPUCCINO – in the sun!
Enjoyment was also high on the list in week three, and yes… Bougatsa Crema was my absolute final boss during these three weeks. The small taverns with their classic Greek cuisine are a delight and make me rejoice looking back at the past culinary eruptions, err, excursions!!

But back to the shelter, back to the actual reason for this trip. The previously "chosen one" (left) quickly turned out to be an absolute heartbreaker who just wanted to cuddle with everyone – which actually fits quite well, as I myself am extremely susceptible when it comes to affection. But the idea remains that a dog chooses ME – certainly a completely unrealistic thought for some. And yet, I want to hold on to this thought, this idea, this wish. Time, as so often in MY LIFE, will tell again.
All in all, this experience with the animals and with the people – inside and outside the shelter – was a truly wonderful experience, with the desire for me to find even more trust in MYSELF and MY PERSON.
It was also great to experience again how it's possible to operate a property or a house self-sufficiently with what the surroundings offer. Because my idea of buying a small house in the Italian mountains is still very high on my wish list. And who knows!?!

For a good two weeks, I'll now be traveling through Italy, as the Tuscany Trail Bikepacking Event is still on the agenda. Probably the biggest worldwide, with an incredible 6,000 participants! My first bikepacking event…
Corfu is behind him, Italy awaits! Will Sasch reach his limits on the Tuscany Trail, and is the dream of a house in the mountains getting closer? We'll find out soon in Part 4!
