Series: Hammock Camping – Part 1: Why Hammock Camping Is So Awesome
Simple. Flexible. Free.
When people think of camping, they usually immediately picture a classic tent—somewhere in a clearing, among trees, with tent stakes laboriously driven into the ground and a sleeping pad on the hard ground. But there’s an alternative that’s attracting more and more adventurersis : hammock camping.
Sleeping High Above the Ground
Instead of struggling with uneven or damp ground, you simply float between two trees. All you need are two sturdy anchor points—no tent poles, no complicated setups. And best of all: You can even camp in places where a tent would be unthinkable—over rivers, on steep slopes, or even between rocks.
Traveling Light
A hammock weighs almost nothing, rolls up compactly, and takes up very little space in your backpack. That frees up space for more important things: good food, your camera, extra water—or simply less weight on your back.
Pure Nature
You sleep under the starry sky, feel the wind on your face, and are awakened by birdsong. No tent fabric separates you from nature—you’re right in the middle of it. And that’s what makes hammock camping so special.
In the next post: How to hang your hammock properly—with tips on choosing trees, finding the perfect angle, and setting it up for your first night.
Stay tuned—the trees are already waiting!
