Hanging High – Spectacular hammock installation in Italy
In May 2018, Ticket To The Moon, together with project manager Igor Scotland, created a spectacular hammock installation above the 50 m wide sandstone formation Pietra di Bismantova in Italy – several hundred meters above the valley floor.
The idea
The inspiration came back in 2012 at the very first highline meeting on Monte Piana (Dolomites), when Armin Holzer and Igor Scotland had the idea of sleeping in a hammock in an extraordinary location. This evolved into the concept of a shared hammock experience at altitude.
The implementation
On May 17, 2018, the setup was set up for the sixth time as part of the Bismantova Highline Meeting. Six courageous participants spent the night in their hammocks under the starry sky – at around 5°C and a brisk breeze. They were kept warm by so-called underquilts – insulated blankets that are attached underneath the hammock and protect against the cold.
In the morning , more participants joined in and a colorful installation of 18 hammocks was created , in which people chilled at the same time – accompanied by slacklining, acroyoga in the air and artistic performances on scarves.
Note: This setup was installed by a professional team with redundant safety measures. The main safety device had a breaking load of up to 120 kN (12,000 kg), while the actual load was a maximum of 30 kN (~3,000 kg).
Thanks to...
A big thank you goes to Slackline Bologna ASD, the town of Castelnovo ne' Monti and the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park for their support, as well as to everyone involved who made this event possible.
