Here's how to restore your tarp's waterproofing

After heavy outdoor use, the coating may lose some of its effectiveness— that's perfectly normal. The good news is that you can easily restore it at home.

Step 1: Soak the tarp

We recommend Nikwax TX.Direct Wash-In to restore your tarp's water-repellent properties. Here's how it works:

• Soak your tarp in a bucket of Nikwax solution according to the product instructions.

• Then wipe it off gently to prevent streaks from forming.

• Let the tarp dry completely before using it again.

This simple step will restore your tarp's original water resistance—it'll be almost like new!

Don't forget the seams!

The seams of your tarp are sewn with thread that contains cotton, which expands slightly when wet and creates a watertight seal. However, if the tarp is regularly packed away while damp, this effect may diminish over time. Here’s how you can easily reseal the seams:

We recommend a seam sealant such as Silicone Seam Sealer or Gear Aid Seam Grip. These products allow you to seal specific seams:

• Carefully apply the sealant along the seams.

• Make sure the puncture holes are completely covered.

• Let everything cure completely according to the instructions before you use your tarp again.
