TRAVEL DIARIES - Micro-adventure with a hammock
by: Therese – Norway
You don't have to travel around the world to experience magical hiking moments.
I'm 45, married, a mother of two, have a career, and a completely normal, often hectic life. That's precisely why I need regular downtime. I love the simple life of camping: setting up my bed, building a fire, and preparing my food in peace – that's what fulfills me.
My hammock journey began in 2018 – in my own backyard . I was hooked from the very first moment. My goal was clear: to become a year-round camper . For me, that meant at least one micro-adventure per month.
I've now spent over fifty nights in my hammock—most of them in the urban wilderness right outside my front door . I take full advantage of every opportunity that presents itself.
Especially during the pandemic, with working from home and limited social contact, these little escapes were vital for my survival. I always return refreshed and happy .
My favorite Easter ritual is hiking. I strap on my snowshoes and head out into the moor for several days—falling asleep under the stars and waking up to the sun on my face and the call of the capercaillie .
I'm constantly looking for new glamping spots . My hammock and packraft are always with me.
